Two new circuits and three Spanish tracks feature on the provisional calendar for the 2024 WorldSBK season.

The two new circuits are both subject to homologation, and are the Cremona Circuit in Italy, which has been a relatively popular training destination for Italy-based riders in recent years, and the Balaton Park Circuit in Hungary, which also features on the 2024 MotoGP calendar as a reserve circuit.

They enter the WorldSBK series in place of the Mandalika International Street Circuit in the Indonesia and the Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola in Italy. Imola returned to WorldSBK in 2023 for the first time since 2019, but also had concerns raised about its safety, especially in wet conditions.

Mandalika, on the other hand, had financial concerns, having lost money on the rounds it held in 2021 and 2022.

Aside from the two new circuits, the headline is undoubtedly that there will be three Spanish rounds, including two to end the season at MotorLand Aragon on 27-29 September and at the Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto on 11-13 October. The third, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, will be the second round of the season on 22-24 March, taking place four weeks after the season opener at Phillip Island.

Jerez returned to WorldSBK in 2023 for the first time since 2020, and only because Argentinian politics meant the planned season finale at San Juan had to be cancelled. The Andalucian circuit’s continuation is an understandable one considering that San Juan will remain unavailable next year, but it also means that there is only one non-European round of the 2024 Superbike World Championship and that WorldSBK and MotoGP together will run a total of nine races in Iberia in 2024.
