New 650cc Moto Morini Calibro marks Italian brand’s return to the cruiser class

The Moto Morini Calibro is the brand’s third model to make use of the 649cc twin cylinder, and brings it back to the cruiser category

Moto Morini Calibro

The Moto Morini Calibro is a new custom-style cruiser from the historic Italian manufacturer, shooting at the mid-capacity category.

Set for a 2024 arrival, the Moto Morini Calibro is the newest creation from the Italian brand, and fittingly after the opening of its new dealership in California.

Although it takes clear inspiration from the classic American cruiser style, the Calibro was designed by the European Moto Morini Centro Stile in Trivolzio.

The heart of the bike is of course the engine. It is a twin-cylinder unit with a capacity of 649cc. In fact, it is the same motor as that used not only in the Moto Morini Seiemmezzo and X-Cape, but also the Kawasaki Vulcan, as reported by Motociclismo. In the Seiemmezzo, the engine produces 61bhp, as it does in the Vulcan, although only 60bhp in the X-Cape. Perhaps a similar number should be expected for the Calibro. Whatever the maximum output will be, Moto Morini has confirmed that there will be a 47bhp version for A2 licence holders.

Another known technical detail is the seat height, which will be an approachable 720mm, while the wheels will be tubeless and 18 inches at the front, and 16 inches at the rear.

The frame is a steel double cradle design, while the front fork is conventional, and the rear features twin shocks.

Motociclismo also reports that the motorcycle will utilise a toothed belt drive, rather than a chain.

Pricing has not yet been announced, but the Calibro is expected to be available from the beginning of 2024.
